Coil Length Calculator
Convert coil weight to linear footage with material density, width and thickness (or gauge).
Inputs
Calculate linear feet from coil specifications.
Result
Estimated Linear Length
0.00
feet
Formula Used:
Length (ft) = Weight / (Width * Thickness * Density * 12)
Formula (Imperial)
Length (in) = Weight (lb) ÷ [Density (lb/in³) × Width (in) × Thickness (in)]
Worked Example
- Given: Weight = 8,000 lb; Steel density = 0.283 lb/in³; Width = 36 in; Thickness = 0.0239 in
- Denominator = 0.283 × 36 × 0.0239 ≈ 0.243
- Length (in) = 8,000 ÷ 0.243 ≈ 32,921 in ⇒ ~2,743 ft
